Preserving the native language

To preserve the language without schools and enlightened centers is very difficult. If the representatives of older generations can (do) still speak their Mother Tongue, youngsters can communicate less in their Mother Tongue. 

If Assyrians and Chaldeans previously lived compactly in their historical homeland and had requirements and possibilities of communication in the Mother Tongue, currently as a result of migration into the countries of Europe, Asia; Australia, Canada and the USA as well, the absence of possibility to live compactly caused deficit of communication.

Existence of the numerous dialects

In the process of studying of the modern Aramaic language, keep in mind that there are numerous dialects that contemporary Assyrians and Chaldeans speak. Each of these dialects has been influenced by local languages and contains many words which are not native to Aramaic. Hence, it is very difficult to systemize the language as a unity (single) source of communication.

Immigration as a challenge

One of the biggest challenges which does not provide consolidation of people and preservation of the language is immigration. There, the Assyrians and Chaldeans of Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria live side by side, communicating in their own dialect. As a result, they do not often understand each other and tend to community in the language of the country where they live or an international English. So, for those coming from Iran “window” is “panjara”; from Iraq – “shabaka” but native Aramaic word is “qowta” or “mabhranita”. 

The main goal of App

That is why the application we tried to omit foreign words as much as possible and replace typical Iranian, Arabic, Turkish, Kurdish, Greek words with native Aramaic words. It was done for people using various dialects, to make it easier for them to understand each other.

In our application, a choice and organization of materials serve a main goal to work out firm skills of oral and written speech and practical knowledge of a language as a means of communication.
